Get answers to your questions about hand luggage with Vueling

Are you going to travel with hand luggage on your next trip? If so, we’ll tell you what you are allowed to take with Vueling, so you can decide whether you want to carry your cabin bag on board with you or check it in free of charge.

From 10 November 2020, Vueling will be offering the 2 items of hand luggage in cabin (underseat bag and cabin bag) + Priority Boarding service, which will enable you to be among the first to board the plane and take your hand luggage on board with you. According to the fare you choose, this service is included (Optima, TimeFlex or Family fares), or you can add it to your booking with the Basic Fare. In any case, and unlike other airlines, you can always bring an underseat bag with you free of charge and check in your cabin bag, also free of charge.

Here are some answers to questions that frequently come up regarding hand luggage.

What hand luggage is always allowed on board?

On flights operated by Vueling, whichever fare you choose, you can always take on board one underseat bag (40x20x30 cm), free of charge, as well as your airport purchases. It must all fit under the seat in front of you, though.

What about my cabin bag?

If you booked your flight before 10 November 2020, whichever fare you have chosen, you will have to check in your cabin bag free of charge (max. 10 kg and 55x40x20 cm). Only passengers with a connecting flight or who have booked the Priority Boarding service will be able to take their cabin bag on board with them.

If you’ve booked after 10 November 2020, it will depend on the type of booking:

  • If you’ve chosen the Basic Fare, you have two options. If you don’t add the 2 items of hand luggage on board + Priority Boarding service, you’ll be able to bring a cabin bag, but you’ll have to check it in free of charge at Vueling’s check-in desks. If you decide to add this service (you can do this when you book or even at a later date, in the “Manage your booking” section), you’ll be able to carry it on board with you and place it in the overhead lockers.
  • If you’ve booked the Optima, Family or TimeFlex fare, or if you’re a Premium customer, passenger with reduced mobility, travelling with an infant or have booked a Space One or Space Plus seat, you can carry your cabin bag on board with you, and you’ll enjoy Priority Boarding.

What if I go to the boarding gate with my cabin bag, which I’m not allowed to take on board?

If you’ve chosen to travel with one underseat bag only, don’t forget to check in your cabin bag when you get to the airport. If you forget and you take your bag to the boarding gate, it will be checked in then and there, and you’ll have to pay a fee.

What if my cabin bag exceeds the size restrictions?

It can be tricky to fit everything you need in your cabin bag, especially in winter. However, even if you feel tempted to bring a larger cabin bag, don’t forget that if you’re going to carry it on board, it must comply with the size and weight restrictions (max. 10 kg and 55x40x20 cm). Any oversized baggage will be checked in at the boarding gate and you’ll have to pay a fee. Luckily, you can follow these tips on how to make the most of the space in your cabin bag, so you can fit everything you need.

Why has Vueling changed its luggage policy?

The aim of this change is to make boarding and disembarking smoother and more comfortable for everyone, and also to improve your experience on board if you decide to carry your cabin bag with you. From 10 November, taking your cabin bag on board and boarding first go hand in hand, so finding a space in the overhead lockers will not be a problem. You’ll have all your things close by during the flight.
