On winter, the urban heart of A Coruña changes the aspect to become a Christmas paradise out of a fairy tale.

Despite the cold and the short days, for a few weeks A Coruña shines with warm Christmas lights that illuminate this beautiful city to make us forget the winter inclemency.

From November 28th to January 2nd, María Pita Square – one of the most beautiful and known spots in the city – becomes the Christmas village, with traditional wooden houses with snow on the roof and paths surrounded of firs that seem like the Christmas markets in the rest of Europe.

This place has lot of magic and fun opportunities for the kids, who could enjoy attractions made for them. Leisure activities, stalls for wishing well – benefits go to local charities from the city – and Santa Claus house, where Santa receives the kids and answer their wishes.

This is an activity for all the family, with more than a 100 workshops to learn how to design a Christmas tree or Christmas Cards, among others. These workshops take place daily in the afternoon (from 17:15 to 19:15h.).

For any age there are activities night and day, two or three daily music performances, in the stage in front of the City House.

Near the Christmas village, at the exhibition room of the City House, there is a traditional nativity scene, with the classic reproduction and including other famous people from the history of A Coruña, distributed on 100 m².

To the most remarkable dates of the holidays, Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve, the hospitality in A Coruña offers many activities to enjoy with your friends. And, of course, on January 5th by the afternoon, the activities are for the kids: the Three Magic Kings parade around the city for the enjoyment of everyone.

With this variety of offers, is not strange that every year thousands of tourists go to A Coruña and the Christmas village of María Pita to enjoy the magic of Christmas.

Divine beauty from Van Gogh to Chagall and Fontana

Set in the heart of Florence, inside one of the greatest masterpieces of Florentine Renaissance architecture, the Fondazione offers a rich and varied programme throughout the year, consisting of high quality, world-class exhibitions ranging from Classical art and the Renaissance to the modern era and to contemporary art.

But in addition to its exhibitions, Palazzo Strozzi is a lively venue for numerous other events such as concerts, performances, contemporary art installations, theatrical performances, activities and guided tours for adults and families. Open throughout the year, it also boasts an elegant café and a quality museum shop.

From 24 September 2015 to 24 January 2016 Palazzo Strozzi will be hosting Divine Beauty from Van Gogh to Chagall and Fontana, an outstanding exhibition that sets out to explore the relationship between art and the sacred from the mid-19th to the mid-20th century, showcasing over one hundred works by such celebrated Italian artists as Domenico Morelli, Gaetano Previati, Felice Casorati, Gino Severini, Renato Guttuso, Lucio Fontana and Emilio Vedova, alongside such international masters as Vincent van Gogh, Jean-François Millet, Edvard Munch, Pablo Picasso, Max Ernst, Georges Rouault and Henri Matisse.

The exhibition offers visitors a unique opportunity to compare and contrast a selection of works of art which, while extremely famous, are observed here in a new and very different light. The show's star exhibits include such masterpieces as Jean-François Millet's Angelus on exceptional loan from the Musée d'Orsay in Paris, Vincent van Gogh's Pietà from the Vatican Museums, Renato Guttuso's Crucifixion from the collections of the Galleria Nazionale d'Arte Moderna in Rome and Marc Chagall's White Crucifixion from the Art Institute Museum in Chicago.

The exhibition is open from 10.00 to 20.00 daily, with late opening until 23.00 on Thursdays.

Admission costs €10, with concessions for children aged 7 to 18 at €4, free admission for children up to age 6, and a special family ticket for €20.

Tours are by appointment only and are designed for groups of adults, individuals visitors and schools.  The programme also includes a wealth of activities and a special "Family Kit".

Starting 1 November 2015, you can visitDivine Beauty, the new Opera del Duomo Museum and the Baptistry of San Giovanni on a special joint ticket allowing you to explore the fantastic history of Florence and its art from the Middle Ages to the present day.

Claves para saborear lo mejor de Santiago

It’s not just an incentive to encourage pilgrims on their way. Gastronomy in Santiago de Compostela has, indeed, recognized worldwide. From the products available at Mercado de Abastos, freshly arrived from the fishing harbours or the fields nearby, which are later available in baroque stills at counters and seafood restaurants.

Tourists go to Santiago looking for great quality on seafood, abundant and well-priced ¿The best? The seafood captured at Galician Rías by the North Sea, of course. Species like crab, lobster, shrimp, razor clams, oysters, crabs, crabs, barnacles, clams, oysters, prawns, barnacles and scallops, better known as "Concha de Santiago", which is also the symbol for the pilgrims and Santiago Way. Seafood is usually conserved alive until is prepared, simply boiled or grilled. However, you should know typically a Galician won’t put any sauce on it, as it masks the taste and qualities.

Then, there is the octopus. Any popular celebration to be considered must have octopus as the star course. Inside, it’s usually cooked "á feira", while in the coastline is usually prepared until is "recio", to be topped with coarse salt, pepper and a splash of oil. In Santiago you will find restaurants specialized in octopus at the streets Conxo, Vista Alegre o Concheiros, where you can also try recipes like octopus pie or octopus with rice.

There are other main products around here: Galician beef – juicy, with an intense and delicious flavour – or the cheeses from Arzúa-Ulloa or cheese roll, usually served with quinces, or the famous Santiago cake, made of almonds. In Santiago, you’ll usually get served a tapa as a courtesy. You can distinguish the tapa from an actual course as the ration is more abundant, sophisticated and not free. Near Obradoiro Square, at the streets of Rúa do Franco and Raíña, you can try all kind of tapas with high quality wines, like albariños and ribeiros.
