Mount Etna

Etna is the largest volcano in Europe and the world’s most active. Year after year, the constant eruptions make it diminish its 3342 meters high, according to the latest estimations.

If you enjoy hiking, you’ll like climbing Mount Etna. Its spectacular dark and volcanic landscapes seem typical of a moonscape. After many eruptions, it is curious that the vegetation has been able to re-settle large areas in the zone.

You can move up by two different paths, the South side and the North side. The South side or Nicolosi, which starts from the Sapienza refuge, has a 5-hour course and medium difficulty. If you take the South side, you will pass  through Bove and the summit craters. The North side Linguaglossa starts at Piano Provenzana and is suitable for trekking lovers.
But if physical effort is not for you, you can make the route back and forth comfortably in funicular railway.

Museum of Art Fakes

There is an unusual art museum in Vienna. It’s the only museum of fake works in Europe! Artworks of universal renowned artists such as Klimt, Van Gogh, Rembrandt or Monet are hanging from the walls, with the “little peculiarity” that they are in principle no value. It is all about imitations.

It’s estimated that between 10 and 15 percent of the work we see in museums can be fakes, some of which have taken decades to discover. Therefore, contemplating fakes is not an strange fact. We just simply don’t know it.

In the Museum of Art Fakes will not give us for a ride. Its works are specifically false, but, even though, its development has not been less thorough. Painting techniques have varied throughout history and many of the original materials are very difficult to find nowadays. In addition, some counterfeiters have also gone down in history for its unique methods and the Viennese museum illustrates their methods. One of the most significant cases is the Dutch Han van Meegeren, whose works reach thousands of pounds in the prestigious London auction.

The Caves of Hercules

The beauty of the place, their archaeological and mythological value make the caves of Hercules an unusual place to visit in Tangier. The mythological comes as it is here where it is said Hercules rested after performing one of his 12 labors, after separating Europe and Africa , and waiting to perform the next task assigned – pick the golden apples from the Garden of the Hesperides .

You get there by a small road , 5 miles from Cape Spartel and 20 minutes from the city of Tangier . Although part of the cave has an artificial origin – rocks for making mill were extracted from here-, its origin is mainly due to the action of strong waves , which has shaped these caves in curious ways. For example , if you see the cave opening to the Atlantic, you will see drawn silhouette of African continenente flipped. Inside the cave , a handful of vendors and artisans offer their ceramic products , souvenirs and postcards with the image of this famous opening .
