Round off your summer with a getaway! Travelling in September is cheaper, and cities are less crowded. What could be better than a trip to recharge your batteries before getting back into the routine?
You can either end summer cooped up in a dreary office, watching how the days get shorter, or you can plan a getaway to one of these cities and end the season with a bang!
Barcelona
Barcelona is one of those cities where it feels like summer all year round. The weather is nice, the streets are always bustling, you find culture in every corner and you can enjoy its typical Mediterranean way of life, where the sea seems to be able to wash away all your troubles! It’s impossible not to love this city.

Make sure you don’t miss Casa Batlló, a beautiful Modernist house by Antoni Gaudí – which is now interactive – right in the city centre.
Malaga
The best way to face the beginning of autumn is with a plate of “espetos” (grilled sardines) at a “chiringuito” (beach bar) in Malaga. This large, friendly city offers mouth-watering tapas, as well as many cultural and artistic events.
Not to be missed
At Picasso’s birthplace you’ll be able to understand more about who the artist really was.
Menorca
According to the locals, Menorca is even more beautiful at the end of the summer and in autumn, when the crowds disappear, leaving the picturesque streets almost empty. You can then enjoy the idyllic landscape, fairy-tale towns like Maó and Ciutadella, and lobster stew that tastes even better when the weather is cooler. Come and see that Menorca is so much more than just beaches!
Not to be missed
Binibeca is a lovely whitewashed town next to the sea, where you can explore the narrow streets and take lots of pictures!
Bilbao
Some things are guaranteed if you come to Bilbao for a few days: beautiful walks along the estuary, first-rate exhibitions at the always interesting Guggenheim Museum, yummy food in abundance, good vibes and an excellent quality of life. Bilbao can also be a great starting point for a tour around the Basque Country.
Not to be missed
Gastronomes should not miss La Ribera Market. But be warned: it’s impossible to leave empty-handed!
Florence
If you want to get the most out of Florence, you need to be organised. Some of the places that should be on your itinerary are the Duomo (which is sure to take your breath away), Piazza della Signoria, Gallerie degli Uffizi, and streets that evoke the Grand Duchy of Tuscany, which left its majestic imprint on what is arguably one of the most beautiful cities in the world. If you have a few days to spare, you can also explore Tuscany.

And there are so many reasons to return to Paris: its pure elegance, reminiscent of the city’s powerful and majestic past which can still be seen in every corner, its imposing buildings, cultural and artistic scene (the Louvre, Centre Pompidou and Museé d’Orsay, for example), Le Marais neighbourhood, and delicious food.

Quai de Valmy, along the tree-lined Saint-Martin canal, is a picturesque spot to see the Eiffel Tower from afar and explore many little restaurants and shops.
