4 GREAT FILM LOCATIONS TO VISIT – OSCARS SPECIAL

Get ready to discover the best film locations, where you’ll be able to feel like a real film star.

We absolutely love the Oscars. Not only because of the amazing performances, stunning outfits and entertaining awards ceremony (which we usually stay up for!), but also because of the destinations that appear in each scene. Because that’s what they become: places we want to travel to!

“Where was that scene filmed?” is a common question that we all ask or hear when we’re watching a film and we fall in love with a certain city, street or even a panoramic view, which is usually filmed from the top of a magical place. Then we let our imagination run wild and plan future getaways where we will recreate those scenes, with us as the star.

In order to start answering that perennial question, and to help you make your travelling dreams come true, we’ve come up with a list of destinations that have been film locations, inspired by the Oscars and those films that have triggered our wanderlust.

Life Is Beautiful (1997): Falling in love in Tuscany

Life is Beautiful always makes us imagine how wonderful it would be to fall in love in one of Italy’s most beautiful regions: Tuscany.

This award-winning film takes us to Arezzo, a small but charming town that will make you sigh in every corner as you remember and re-enact Guido and Dora’s beautiful love story. Explore the Piazza Grande, walk down the cathedral’s steps and imagine that you are on the red carpet that Dora also stepped on. Here’s what we suggest: Start your adventure in the capital of this region: the wonderful and romantic Florence, one of the cities not to be missed in Tuscany. Now it’s up to you!

Midnight in Paris (2011): Dive into the Parisian nightlife

Paris will always be an ideal destination for a getaway, for hundreds of reasons. But today we want to add one more: to discover its Bohemian side, by looking at it through the eyes of Woody Allen and his amazing film “Midnight in Paris”. So, if you’ve always been one of those people who gets up early to explore a city, why not do the opposite and explore it at midnight? Who knows, you may come across Hemingway, Picasso or Fitzgerald as you cross the Pont Alexandre III or walk along the Seine, in the light of the Parisian street lamps. Follow Gil’s example and dive into the night of the city of love, and discover its Bohemian side.

Dune (2021): Step into the future

Dune is one of those films where every scene is a masterpiece. With its amazing landscapes, it comes as no surprise that it was nominated for the best cinematography award. Although it was filmed in several countries, the main location is Jordan: in the amazing “Valley of the Moon” (Wadi Rum), the largest valley in this country, with its sandstone and reddish hues. It’s the perfect destination for fans of travel photography and science fiction. We suggest starting your adventure in Amman, the capital of Jordan and one of oldest cities in the world. You’ll feel like you’ve been thrown into the future; as if you’re the star of your own film. Are you up for it?

Vicky Cristina Barcelona (2009): A summer full of passion

“Sunny Barcelona”, who wouldn’t want to spend a memorable summer in Barcelona? Even better if you’re following in the footsteps of the main characters of “Vicky Cristina Barcelona”, a fascinating film that will make you wish it were summer already, so you can be teleported to the top of Mount Tibidabo or to the magical rooftop of La Pedrera. Barcelona is the perfect city for an amazing getaway, as it not only has amazing landmarks, like La Sagrada Familia and Park Güell, but also loads of leisure options that will help you live your own adventure. We suggest getting inspired by this film, which is sure to give you lots of ideas of things to do in the city and have the time of your life!

What are you waiting for? So, get the popcorn out and start making a list of those destinations you’d love to discover, inspired by your favourite films. Make sure you take lots of photos, so you can feel like a real star on the red carpet!

Because your life is like a film and you’re the main character!
