Hand luggage in summer – what can I carry on board?

Last summer you vowed not to leave packing till the last minute, but it's happened again... now you're in a hurry and you're not sure about what you can carry in your hand luggage this summer. As we don't want you to stress out before you go on holiday, we'll go over some items that you may not be sure about.

      • Beach umbrella

If you're planning to hit the beach and you're wondering whether you can bring your beach umbrella, the answer is yes, but you'll have to check it in.
      • Umbrella

You've checked the weather at your destination and unfortunately it looks like rain. You can put your compact umbrella in your cabin luggage.
      • Liquids

If you can't survive without your lotions and potions – moisturiser, shampoo, hair mask, sun cream, etc. – you can bring them but there are restrictions. Liquids must be carried in containers of no more than 100 ml (up to 1 litre) and stored in a re-sealable, transparent plastic bag.
      • Liquid medication

Medication is not subject to the aforementioned restrictions, only when its use is strictly necessary. At security control you must show the medication and a prescription for it.
      • Electronic devices

Cameras, video cameras, laptops, mobile phones and other devices must be placed in a separate tray at security and the battery must always be charged.
      • Sports equipment

If you're planning to do sports whilst on holiday and you want to bring your own equipment (golf clubs, trekking poles, scuba-diving gear, fishing rods, kayak or canoe paddles, etc.), you must check it in (this kind of equipment is not allowed as hand luggage).

If you have any more questions about what you can pack in your hand luggage, we recommend asking the airline directly.

PS: With Vueling you can bring up to 2 items of hand luggage (one cabin bag up to 10 kg and an underseat bag), if you choose the Optima, Family or TimeFlex fare, or if you're a Premium customer. If you have booked the Basic Fare and don't pay for the service to bring your cabin bag on board, you won't be able to do so. You can carry a bag or backpack that fits under the seat in front, though. Read this other post to find out more.
